Things Keep Piling

Around the beginning of February Uriah started to limp, like maybe he had stepped on something and hurt his foot. We thought nothing of it, little ones bang their knees all the time, and we decided to wait and let it get better on its own. Well, a month later and the limp is worse. Uriah was walking like one leg was shorter than the other, and he couldn't even run without tripping over himself. He looked so clumsy, it broke my heart. I thought sure that there must have been something wrong with him. So I set up an appointment with the pediatrician, who checked things out and took some x-rays. When we got home from the doctor's the limp looked even worse than it did before. I wondered if, when they twisted his legs for the x-rays, they had aggravated whatever was causing his limp even more. When the doctor called to tell me that the x-rays showed that everything was okay, I expressed my concern that the limp had gone on for so long and now it looked worse, so the doctor decided we needed to do a bone scan. We took Uriah up to the hospital where they gave him an IV and injected him with radioactive calcium, which would light up his bones in a scan. We played around on the pediatrics floor at the hospital for about 3 hours, did the scan and then went home. Uriah was such a good boy, he didn't even move an inch during the scan. That night the doctor called to tell us that the scan showed no injuries and that we should take Uriah to a physical therapist. I decided to wait a week to see if Uriah got better, because we were already racking up the bills just by doing x-rays and scans. Wouldn't you know it, 4 days go by and Uriah is walking and running just like any normal kid.
I felt ridiculous for having gone through all that. I guess I am a mother. Did I over-worry? Did I do the wrong thing? Part of me says yes, but part of me knows that if there had been something wrong and I didn't do anything about it, I never would have forgiven myself. It's better to be safe than sorry, and even though Uriah's bills just added to the ones I still have from having Jordyn and having my gallbladder out, I am happy to know that my son's legs are complete and whole.

In other news, Jordyn has been sleeping all night for about 3 weeks now. It sure has helped Jared and I get the sleep we need at night, and we even took down the bassinet and moved Jordyn to the crib in her own room. I am still a little paranoid and I always check on her before I go to bed, if I have to get up in the middle of the night for something, and before I go to work, but she has always been okay and is such a good baby. She is a very happy baby and always smiles and talks to me. Uriah loves to give her hugs and kisses all the time, and sometimes tries to hold her and pick her up. If we lay her on the floor he will sit down next to her and play with her. He likes to rub her head a lot. She has short, fuzzy soft hair and I think he likes to touch it. I thought I could never be happier than I was when I had Uriah, but seeing Uriah play with Jordyn, even though she really can't play back, makes me happier than I've ever been. Having more than one baby is one of the best things that has ever happened to me.

Maybe Next Time...

So, remember those professional pictures I talked about a few posts back? Well, here they are. We had a fun photo shoot, and our photographer was very sweet and nice, but next time we get pictures taken we want to try someone new. We have found out that there are a lot of photographers in the area that we would like to try. I also spent a lot more than I should have on these pictures (stupid tax returns make you feel invincible!)when the money could have been saved or spent on things we actually needed. I also wish that Jared had come with me for these so that he could have been in some of them. He decided to stay home and study for a big test he had coming up. My original intention was to just get pictures of Jordyn taken, but since the sitting fee was the same cost no matter how many people were there, I decided to have Uriah and I jump into a few of the pictures. For all the money I spent on these, I wish now that Jared had been there. Anyway, I am glad to have these pictures for the memories they create, and I hope to enjoy them for a long, long time.

Christmas 09

Christmas 09 was one to remember. Jared , Jordyn and I left the hospital on Christmas Eve and we went to my mom and dad's house for a little party, to open presents and stuff. Everyone loved seeing the new, one-day-old baby and giving her hugs and kisses. On Christmas morning my mom and dad came over to watch us open presents. Uriah had a lot of fun ripping the paper off of his presents. I was still recovering from the hospital visit and everything, but it was such a good day that I don't even remember feeling tired or sore.

A Late Start

So I know that the new year started about a month and a half ago, but I think I've got some pretty good excuses for not blogging. Besides welcoming our new baby girl two days before Christmas, I welcomed a very unwelcome gallbladder attack on January 7th. I went to the ER and they did some tests and told me that I had a urinary tract infection (which was ridiculous) and they sent me home with pain medication and antibiotics. Well, that ended the breastfeeding for Jordyn because the antibiotics weren't safe to take while breastfeeding, and the pain in my stomach wasn't going away so it was hard to breastfeed anyway. 4 days later, still in pain and thinking I'd much rather be in labor again, I went back to the ER and they made the correct diagnosis (finally) and I had my gallbladder removed on January 11th. It was the first real surgery I'd ever had and I was nervous, but everything turned out okay. The surgery was supposed to take 1 1/2 hours and only include 4 incisions, but my gallbladder was so infected that the surgery took 3 hours and 6 incisions. The surgeon said it was 5 times the size it was supposed to be and that I should have been in a lot more pain than I was and that it was a good thing we got it out. He gave me two of the largest stones (although there were lots more) and he gave me a picture.Anywho, I started going back to work on February 1st, and it wouldn't have been so bad if Jordyn would sleep through the night. She would do okay sometimes, but most of the time she would wake up every 3-4 hours. I got used to it pretty quickly, and I started setting my alarm about half an hour earlier than normal to make sure I had time to feed her and get ready for work. It really has made me appreciate my weekends a lot more! She is actually doing fairly well now and sleeps about 4-5 hours at a time, if she gets a good dinner :) She has been fighting a cold the last few weeks that congested her really bad, and for a while she couldn't eat very much because she couldn't breathe through her nose. She is starting to get over that and that makes a very happy mommy! Uriah got a double ear infection and just finished his 10 day antibiotic and is back to his happy self. I don't know what I would do without him! Jared is working and taking Genetics and Chemistry, and those classes are giving his brain a good workout. He doesn't get very much sleep, but like me he is getting used to it.

Well, I've talked a lot about my baby girl, so I suppose I'd better post pictures of her :) Jordyn Rae was born on Dec. 23 at 10:37 am and weighed 7 lbs 14oz. It was a very fast labor/delivery. I was induced around 1 am and when that didn't get me anywhere my doctor broke my water at about 8:30 am. At 10 am I was dilated to a 5 and half an hour later baby Jordyn was here! The nurses weren't prepared and were rushing around to set things up for the baby to arrive and the doctor barely made it there in time to catch her. She just didn't want to wait anymore!


About a week ago I had some professional pictures done of my two babies. It was a lot of fun and Uriah was a big ham. Here are the preview pictures that I got before I got to see all of them. When I finally buy them I will post them on here to show them off.
For Valentine's weekend I planned a surprise trip for Jared and I to the Anniversary Inn in Logan. We staid in the Tipi room. Sounds corny, but it was so relaxing and quiet, we just shut ourselves up in the room and forgot about the outside world. The tub was absolutely FANTASTIC. As far as gifts, Jared and I got ourselves new furniture with our tax return and I got Jared an ipod nano so he can listen to music at work. I absolutely love my new sectional. There is a huge difference between 20 year old furniture and furniture that's never been sat on :)
